Having a Good Job Interview
Having a good job interview is important for anyone looking for employment. Just like anything else in life, there are some things that are a good idea to do and some things that are not good to do. Knowing which ones are right can be helpful in securing the job you want. Things like dressing professional and knowing the right answers to the questions that the employers are going to ask can help you have a good job interview.
The first step to getting the job you want it so show up early. Remember that there are probably going to be a lot of job applicants showing up for the interview. If you are early to yours by at least fifteen minutes, then the chances of you being seen early is better. Employers like seeing initiative in perspective employees. Coming to the interview dressed professionally can also be beneficial. However, do not over do it. A suit and tie to a minimum wage job interview may be viewed as a sign of over qualification. Use your best judgment. Sound professional as well. Try to stay away from vernaculars. This speech pattern can be viewed as a sign of ignorance and looked down upon. Remember to sound up beat and eager to start. If you show that you are ready to start right away, you are more likely to get the job.
Knowing the answers to their questions can also help secure the job. Most companies ask the same questions, perhaps with a their own wordings. Some of these questions have no right or wrong answers, while others do not appear to have a right or wrong answer, but really do. If asked whether you have a reliable means of transportation, the correct answer is always yes, even if it is the city bus. A difficult to answer question that stumps a lot people is about describing your work ethic. Your work ethic should always reflect what the company is looking for. You come to work early, stay until the work is finished, and do what you are told to do when you are told to do it. Another difficult question to answer is what your long term plans are. The answer should be a comment on being with the company and moving up in position. Companies want to know that you are reliable and dependable and that you will be with the company for a long time.
Knowing the right answers only help with a good job interview. Appearance can play an even more important role in landing the job then answering the questions correctly. Do not make a “good” first impression. Make an outstanding first impression, they last longer. Before the interview begins, shake the interviewers hand and use their title and last name if you know it. For instance, “Good morning, Mr. White.” is a good way to start the meeting. When taking a seat, sit straight, look forward, but do not stare, and show that you are paying attention. Look your interview in the eyes. Do not fidget or look anxious. These can be cues that you are in a hurry or have “better things to do”. Be positive of all of your former employers. Most companies are looking for someone that is going to represent their company in a positive way and discourage disparaging remarks about other companies or employers.
Knowing the best ways to have a good job interview will make the difference in whether you will get the job or not. Making all of your job interviews a good job interview is important. Be positive when entering and leaving. Knowing that your interview was good can help you get the job.
