A Cover Letter Example is a Compass

It’s a lot easier to accomplish a goal or an achievement when you have seen it done by someone else first. The 4-minute mile was nearly an impossibility until the first runner conquered it, paving the way for others to meet and then to exceed the new high standard. Having a cover letter example is as beneficial to the direction of a job seeker as the observation of the breaking of the 4-minute mile was to the thousands of runners who wanted to improve their running times. A cover letter example is the compass that assists those trying to navigate their way to the “X” on the map — the destination of hearing the sweet words, “You’re hired!”

Cover Letter Examples for Different Job Types

Not every cover letter will be the same. That’s why cover letter examples come in especially handy. You can see just what type of material will need to be covered in one job market verses another. Not only do cover letter examples give you an idea of the content necessary in one field of work as opposed to others, but you can also learn the verbiage and level of formality in the composition of your writing. Cover letter examples may also demonstrate, for instance, that when seeking an entry level position your cover letter may not be as involved and full of as many details as that of a cover letter reflecting a more advanced career. And, like the attendees of an opera would bristle as the interruption of loud, out-of-place rock music, it’s important to adjust perspective and approach when addressing each different prospective job type and employer. Cover letter examples are wonderful tools to help you find the right “voice.”

Should I Copy One of My Favorite Cover Letter Examples?

You might be wondering if you can take any given cover letter example (one that you favor particularly) and basically insert the relevant details. Well, absolutely! As long as you have chosen a cover letter example that “speaks” to you and that you feel will help to convey the message you are trying to reach the employer with, then why not frame your cover letter after a catchy and appropriate model? An employer shouldn’t mind your “look alike” as long as it is not trite and containing little substance. Above all, make sure you are sincere and actually have something important to say about how you can add to the company’s equation of success, and a cover letter example can only enhance your chances of receiving a callback and interview.

Where to Access Top Quality Cover Letter Examples

You can, of course, get free cover letter examples by pulling them off from the internet. But would you put your fate in the hands of “free” just to save an expense, while jeopardizing an opportunity for serious and poignant cover letter examples from sources that aren’t free, but are proven in the field of battle? It’s like sending a soldier to war without armaments, reinforcements, and a strategic plan for conquering the enemy. The competition is fierce, with the ratio of the number of applicants to available positions extremely lopsided. In order to be a warrior with a fighting chance, you should have access to top quality cover letter examples. Without a number of cover letter examples from which to study and apply, you are very much “unprotected” and “unprepared.” The infamous software the Amazing Cover Letter Creator solves this problem in short order with a variety of cover letter examples for practical use.

A job cover letter is in all likelihood your very first contact with an employer. The job cover letter is meant to be a means of introduction. It is a medium of communication that is a little less formal than a resume, but a little more formal than just picking up the phone and inquiring about a listed position. Job cover letters should also pique interest in the accompanying document, your polished resume.

The job cover letter and a resume are such an important tandem, that hoping for a callback without the job cover letter is a lot like a child opening a Christmas present and much to his chagrin finding that the batteries are sold separately from the electronic gadget. Here we focus our attention on the job cover letter because as in baseball you must run to first base before turning the corner and continuing on, so, too, must you work sequentially when making the initial contact with the employer. You can’t hit the ball and run to home base first. Neither should you present an employer with a resume without its companion, the job cover letter.

Does Every Job Require a Job Cover Letter?

Not all jobs require a job cover letter… just the ones you would like to be hired for! Actually, requirements are kind of beside the point in this discussion. Whether or not the listed position you are applying for asks for one or not, it is almost always appropriate to include a job cover letter with your resume. The question, “Does every job require a job cover letter?” is akin to asking, “Do I only do the bare minimum I have to in my job (or in life) to get by?” You can usually expect to sow what you reap. Employers are nearly always looking for the individual who will go the extra mile and spend the extra time to be excellent. How bad do you want the job? If it’s worth your while to send in a resume, it’s also worth the extra time to commit to personalize your approach with the attendant job cover letter to round out your efforts.

The Disadvantaged Resume Without a Job Cover Letter

Some people, when job hunting, will participate in resume “spamming.” While it is okay to send out resumes to several firms at once, it can be much less effective to send them to employers in an “untargeted” way. You really are at a disadvantage when your resume doesn’t “shake hands” first through your ambassador, the job cover letter. Just as you are not properly addressing your target audience by just sending out hundreds of resumes for jobs loosely related to your skill set and qualifications, neither are you setting yourself up for much success if you don’t have a very position-specific job cover letter. Do you think that an employer would be more likely to look over a resume that is by itself, or conversely, feast his eyes first upon something of a more personal nature? Reading a job cover letter is kind of like being able to read a page out of a person’s diary. If you could be a fly on the wall at the employer’s office you would see the interest lies far more often with the paired documents of a job cover letter and a resume than solely with a resume.

Constructing Job Cover Letters

Hopefully now that you have become convinced of the utility of a thoughtful job cover letter, you are also empowered with some of the tools to make it happen — without much consternation. If it does cause you a bit of anxiety to have to write a job cover letter for each unique job that you apply for, rest assured that there exists a great opportunity to plug in to a painless procedure that makes writing a job cover letter a pleasant experience.

If you are the type that needs an example, to see something done first before tackling a job yourself, looking at and reading through several sample cover letters will help you ease into it. It’s okay, there is nothing to be ashamed of — many of the most notable people in all of history have patterned their lives after a mentor. So, if you need to digest some sample cover letters to give you a starting point and the courage to start writing your own, in principle you are in very good company. Sample cover letters can show just what should be included in a job cover letter, what is better left for a resume, and the type of tones and themes to approach the task with.

Every Job is Different — Thus the Reasoning for “Sample” Cover Letters

Because each job that you apply for is going to have its own unique characteristics and peculiarities, when it comes to resume cover letters, there is no one model that is perfect. Just like when you sample food, you are simply getting a taste; you are also “tasting” different flavors and styles when you look over many types of sample cover letters. In essence, what you are doing is trying to match a format with your personality and the personality and qualifications of the position you are applying for. Sample cover letters are the bridge to help you reach that goal. When you have a particular cover letter type that can help you most eloquently express your message, you can then dive into a “discussion” about how you + said position = divine design. See how nice a sample cover letter can be? Sample cover letters are like the revving up of the engines before a Monster Truck event. They help to set the stage for what is to come.

Sample Cover Letters Are the Outer Edges of the Puzzle

When putting together a puzzle, isn’t it much easier to complete the border or outer edges first? With sample cover letters, that’s what you get — the foundation from which to build upon. Ever been to a carnival or fair and there is a “cutout” of a funny/voluptuous/strong (take your pick) character, and you get to put your face in it to complete the picture? A sample cover letter is also referred to as such because it isn’t quite the “real thing”, or better stated, it’s incomplete without you. You are the contents; it’s just the yeast that helps you to rise.

Transitioning From the Sample Cover Letter to Your Resume Cover Letter

Okay, now you’ve seen enough sample cover letters, and it is time for you to actually start the work of writing your own. Fear not, you can do it — with a little help. Why not try something that has been already proven to land jobs? You know how so many things in life seem so hard before we figure out how to do them? Well, there are usually some very smart people that blaze trails and have “been there, done that” before we even think about taking the journey. There’s an elegant piece of software where the very experienced hold your hand and lead you through the resume cover letter writing process step by simple step. You will want to own a copy of the Amazing Cover Letter Creator. As the saying goes: “Find someone who has done what you want to do, who has what you want to have, and copy them!”

Resume Not Getting You Hired? Think Cover Letter.

Some people think that they’re just not getting hired because their resume is all wrong. If they are overqualified for a particular job, they set about “dumbing down” their resume. If they believe themselves to be underqualified for a position, they do everything they can to revamp their resume to make it “dressed for success” so they can paint the town as well as the office of every hiring manager on the planet. And if they are about on par with the qualification standards, they still scramble to execute a major overhaul of their resume, often because of their lack of confidence in how they have conveyed their abilities. What they don’t know is that their time would be better spent on a cover letter.

A Resume vs. a Well-Written Resume Cover Letter

Resume cover letters prevent you from having to go to all the trouble of trying to reinvent yourself over and over again as it pertains to your past—and the unalterable facts included on your resume. Instead of having a mindset of computing this upstairs in your head: “Failed to attract interest. Must rewrite resume!”, program this instead: “Resume couldn’t do it alone. Needed some personality!” A resume cover letter is really a sales letter. It is by leaps and bounds more effective at getting an invitation for an interview than a drab, matter-of-factly-written resume. How could a resume humanize anyone? No wonder so many end up in the circular file. Reading a resume is like going out on a date with a paper doll. On the other hand, reading a well-worded and insightful resume cover letter is a lot more up close and personal — like holding hands with a dream date! Reading a resume cover letter can also to a lesser extent be like reading your palm. It may be a bit subjective and unproven in theory, but it can win some hearts and score some points. It can’t be emphasized enough that a resume cover letter should be an ice-breaker, a truce-maker, and a breath-taker!

Resume Cover Letters Speak Volumes about Your Intent

As you decide upon what to include in your resume cover letter, do your homework. But don’t view it as homework you do for a grade, rather something for which you will later be paid! That’s right — you have 8 ½ x 11 inches to get what needs saying said. Don’t blow it. Don’t be too frilly or too finicky. In a manner of speaking, you need to splash some superlatives while not dishing out desperate. You’re excited, able, and willing, but still dignified and sought after. Your resume cover letter is your chance to outshine the competition!

How Would You Respond to Your Cover Letter?

If you were the boss, hiring manager, or human resources director in charge of the hiring process, how would you respond to the cover letter that came across your desk with your autograph on it? Does it captivate you and make you want to get to know the person (you)? You may be a little biased, so seek a trusted and party-neutral source for good feedback. And remember there is some fantastic, no less than amazing software out there that will help you in your approach to writing a covering letter that is a smashing success, leaving behind the job search for other productive endeavors — like working. Let the Amazing Cover Letter Creator be your tool and guide to a compelling resume cover letter.

The Cover Letter Template as a Recipe

It’s pretty critical to make certain that no ingredients are missing when you are mixing together a recipe. Have you ever tasted the finished product of a recipe that was missing even just one simple ingredient? Depending upon the missing ingredient, baked goods may not even resemble what was intended to be made. Cover letter templates eliminate the forgetting of important details. With a cover letter template you already have a recipe that has all of the necessary ingredients included. Really all you have left to do is to give it some finishing touches and “put it in the oven.” Cover letter templates offer a very structured approach to resume cover letter writing, leaving out any guesswork.

Is Using a Cover Letter Template too Impersonal?

Using a cover letter template might be too impersonal… if you were trying to become the Pope or the President. Essentially, for every job that requires a written resume to be submitted, there is absolutely no shame in utilizing a cover letter template; neither should there be any reservations whatsoever, because a cover letter template is just your basic donut. You decide if/what the filling is and what flavor of glaze (and do you want to add sprinkles?). Because you take the cover letter beyond the basic nuts and bolts of the cover letter template, you’re in safe territory using a cover letter template. Just don’t forget to fill in the blanks!

A Cover Letter Template Saves You from Having to Rely Upon Your Memory

Since the job cover letter is a first impression, you will surely want to make it a notable one. Should you decide to go it alone, make 100% sure that you are covering every “nook and cranny.” You wouldn’t want to leave out anything important in your cover letter. What if you just “blew off” using a cover letter template, and the person reading your cover letter was left feeling very confused after finishing it? How could that happen? Well, perhaps you decided that you didn’t need a cover letter template. And being human, you left out some important details and considerations in the writing of your job cover letter. Dang! Don’t be left “danging” anything; make sure you do your due diligence and use a cover letter template, even if it is only to “cover” your backend. If you didn’t use the cover letter template, forgot something, and you never got the callback for an interview, you may never come to know why. And that could result in a heap of frustration.

Cover Letter Templates Make Sure You Answer All the Big Questions

They say there’s a first time for everything. Taken literally, that would mean that there is a chance that one of these days you are going to stretch your arms out, the wind will pick you up and you’ll reach a cruising altitude, really flying! You can dream. But, when the dreaming is done, the work has just begun. Although flying can be an analogy of the success you may achieve in the corporate world (or as a blue collar worker, if you so chose), let’s come back down to earth for a spell and discuss why “firsts” are important.

Remember when you were a child — think way back — when everything was fresh, and each dawn was the hatching of a new experience, and excitement over the simplest things would abound? Admit it; you were mesmerized by all the “firsts” — completely impressionable!!! Much of who you are today is a smorgasbord of all the ingredients from that which happened to you and around you as a child. All of those “first” experiences combined to paint your worldview, for good or for ill.

Sooner than you thought would happen, you realized you had a family to support, a mortgage to pay, insurance premiums, mouths to feed, etc. And whether it’s your first prospective job or you’re far into your adult working life, you will likely be finding yourself doing this one thing over and over again — for the first time: trying to impress someone you’ve never met before through the medium of the printed word on paper.

You have an amazing grasp on the obvious, even if it is on delay. Sooner or later, you came to the realization that everybody has a resume, and although they can vary a bit from person to person in the areas of education, work experience, skills, and even the format of the document itself, by and large resumes are dull and boring and do very little to attract the kind of personalized attention you need to set you apart from the rest of the dozens of applicants all competing for the same opening.

Now, follow me here — back to childhood again — your own child’s childhood this time (or if you don’t have one, make due by pretending): how are you going to explain it when the little one asks for the first time how the TV works or how an airplane stays up in the sky without falling? Are you going to be technical and dogmatic in your explanation, or are you going to be animated and imaginative, urging and inspiring the youngster?

The difference between a callback and no callback has very little to do with qualifications on a resume (that comes later), and everything to do with “firsts”. Resumes are like eating meat before you are weaned from the bottle. They’re a little hard to digest without careful and proper preparation. Why are so many resumes overlooked or simply passed by? They are too technical, dogmatic, and uninspiring. You have a serious leg up when you remember the human touch; introductions are critical.

Just like you experienced so many exhilarating “firsts” when you were growing up, you need to realize there is A) An order to the way in which we as humans are open to receiving information, and B) That when that information is received in a unique and exciting manner, it stimulates a lasting impression from which to build upon. That is why a resume cover letter is so important in the hiring process. To think that some overlook or disregard this step altogether is mind-boggling. Keep A and B in mind when submitting any resume for review. Spice up your resume cover letter, remembering the human element and that you are more than just your resume. You are full of vibrant life; an extremely valuable component of any employer’s staffing needs. Of course, you need to be relevant, but tailor your introduction (resume cover letter), your first contact with a prospective employer, in a fashion that would — while helping the employer realize your strengths and aptitude for the job — also seem like you were explaining something extremely captivating for the first time ever, to anyone!

Welcome to Job-Cover-Letters.com! If you need advice on landing a job in this tough market, you’ve come to the right place. Cover letters are an essential part of securing an interview, which can lead to securing a job. The three articles on this page will help guide you toward becoming a better cover letter writer.

Many people concentrate a lot of their attention toward creating the “perfect resume.” There are even professional resume writers who will help polish your resume. However, a good resume is not enough, especially in this market. Without a resume cover letter, your resume is going to end up in the circular file. According to experts, it only takes seven seconds to make a good first impression.

What would look more appealing in the eyes of a hiring manager – A dry resume accounting of your skills and work history or a personable letter that highlights what makes you an excellent candidate? Obviously, the second choice is more appealing.

When it comes to writing cover letters, there are a lot of myths out there! Here are the facts you need to know before you start creating your winning job search cover letter.

Myth #1: Your cover letter should restate your resume’s highlights.

Yes and no. While the information on your cover letter shouldn’t be different than your resume, you shouldn’t just restate the same information in a new way. Your cover letter should personalize the information and help you explain WHY you’ll be good at your job. Think of it this way: if your resume represents the “supplies” you come with, your cover letter is a “blueprint” of how they’ll all fit together. You need to explain how your previous experience will help you do the job you are applying for.

Myth #2: A cover letter should start with “To Whom it May Concern.”

For best results with your cover letter, you should try as hard as you can to find out who the actual hiring manager will be. By addressing your letter as “Dear Ms. Smith” you can put yourself ahead of the pack and show that you take initiative.

Myth #3: Your cover letter should be no longer than a paragraph.

Cover letters are your chance to really shine in front of your potential employer… why would you want to limit yourself to a paragraph? As long as you aren’t creating multiple pages, you should make your job cover letter as long as you need to.

Myth #4: You should include your salary history and your requirements in a cover letter.

This is false. The salary discussion should be saved for later in the interview process. Your cover letter needs to be about what you can do for the employer and not what they can do for you. Don’t switch the focus off of how useful you can be by writing about your expected salary. Sell yourself and your attributes only.

These myths can be overcome with a professional quality cover letter that will put you ahead of the rest of the applicants.

Cover letters are so important you might be intimidated to create them. Don’t worry! There is a lot of formatting that goes into creating a proper cover letter. Once you know the job cover letter format, putting your cover letter together is as simple as piecing together a puzzle.

First, some general formatting tips. You should use a block style business letter format with one inch margins. Be sure to use the same font style and size that you use for your resume. You should have your address and contact information at the top, either centered or left justified. The address and contact information for the hiring manager should be left justified just above the start of your letter.

There are three main sections that you need to pay attention to with your cover letter. You can use the following job cover letter template to create your own cover letter.

The first paragraph: Right after your personalized salutation, you should tell the employer why you are contacting them and which position you are interested in. A lot of times companies will post many job openings at once and they need to know which job you’d like. Make sure to mention where you saw the ad for the company. Also, briefly mention why you are interested in this particular job.

The second paragraph: Here’s where you get to show off. The second paragraph should be used to give a detailed accounting of why you are qualified for the job. From your resume, pick two to three points or positions that best explain why you are right for this particular job. You need to be very specific in this paragraph. Instead of just stating “I’m good with numbers” point to specific experiences, ie: “I managed the accounts payable department for two years while working for Tempest Technology.”

This paragraph can be longer than the first and can have a specific format. In the first sentence, hit hard with a statement of why you are the best person for the job. In the body of the paragraph, use evidence from your resume to explain why you are the best person for the job. Give strong examples. Finally, wrap up this paragraph with a summary of what you’ve discussed.

The third paragraph of your resume should refer the reader to your enclosed resume and communicate the next steps in the process. If you are planning on contacting the hiring manager, let them know when and how. Leave your contact information again (either your phone number or e-mail address depending on the nature of the job), and be sure to thank the hiring manager for their time and consideration.

This format will make it easy to create your own cover letter that will encourage the hiring manager to call you in for an interview. It will be simple to put together the pieces using this template, but you may still need a little help creating an effective cover letter. If so, Tip #3 is for you..

Even with job cover letter templates, it can still be overwhelming to come up with a unique cover letter. If you’re struggling with the thought of having to write one from scratch, you’re not alone. Many people worry about their cover letters, especially if they don’t consider themselves to be good writers. Knowing the fact that cover letters are very important, it’s important to make sure that your cover letter is doing its job.

Having a quality cover is essential and you can easily stand head and shoulders above your competition with some cover letter help. Instant cover letters are not only possible, but they actually work! You can create a quality cover letter instantly and easily with the Amazing Cover Letter Creator. This product is put out by Jimmy Sweeney, a professional copywriter. The program is designed to help you create a cover letter that not only introduces your resume but motivates the hiring manager to take action.

Here’s how it works…

After you download Amazing Cover Letter Creator, you’ll open it up. You can read the introduction that explains what the creator will do and how to use it for the best results. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the process, you can begin to create your letter. Jimmy uses “attention getting ingredients” which will stand out to the reader.

Next, you’ll fill in some of the important details about the position and your work history. There are a variety of different letters to choose from. Letters are customized to the amount of positions that are open, letters for companies with no specific position listed, and many different career options. You select your option and then enter in how many people will likely apply to the position. You can select whether you have a little experience for the position or a lot of experience.

That’s it! That’s all you have to enter in order to have your cover letter created for you. You can copy and paste the cover letter over to your Word processing program and then send it on. You will probably want to make some slight modifications to your letter just so it sounds more personal, but all in all it’s a very simple way to make a winning cover letter.

The program is very powerful, but, as with all things, there are some drawbacks. Amazing Cover Letter Creator does not let you personalize the text from within the program. It would be nice if you were able to customize your name, address and contact information instead of having to type it in each time. It would also be nice to be able to edit the position name and your qualifications within the program. But this is not a huge problem, as you can easily copy and paste the file into a Word document and edit from there.

Overall, the program is very easy to use and it creates a hard hitting semi-customized template for you to work with. There is a lot of education within the program too that will let you know why the cover letter creator is making certain decisions for your cover letter.

I tested out Amazing Cover Letter Creator upon the personal recommendation of Jimmy, who I know. I need to let you know that if you purchase through my link I will receive a commission on the sale, but even if I wasn’t, I’d recommend it to people. I believe it can help you create an incredible resume cover letter that will assist you in your job hunt and get you more interviews… Plus, it’s comes with a 100% money-back guarantee.
